Music Prototypes
Haven’t been here for a while. I was writing a set of music for the showcase later this year. However, some of these tunes turned out to be what I think not suitable for the show. So I just put the sheet music here. There is another piece I like a lot but it already…

Tension Substitution Guide
I was organizing my notes for 6-horn writing recently, and I made a mechanical voicing tension substitution guide for it. The main purpose of it is to avoid the minor 9th interval in the voicing. Clearly there is no rule of writing an instrument section, but this would be a great reference to start with.…

New Music
Finally I have the time to upload my new music. The first one is “For Real”. This is one of my Harmony class project, and I used multi-tonic concept for the entire track. The second one is “Angelic Ascension”. I tried a very fast (202bpm) tempo piano part, a constant structure harmony pattern, and a…

Game Music
I wrote 2 game music for my Unity Pinball project. Both of them are produced in chiptune style via the chipsounds plugin. This plugin is now discontinued but I am glad that I bought it last year because it is a good chip simulation program. The title theme actually sounds more like Final Fantasy, rather…

Modal Interchange Chord Modes Guide

Also useful for getting the appropriate chord when writing modal music. In most cases, Lydian and Dorian are the most common modal…

Transcription: Choral
I did another transcription today :3 This one is “Choral”, by Arild Anderson. I like this piece because this one is completely based on Lydian constant structure, which is pretty colorful. And I really enjoy playing it. I did both lead sheet and the piano solo. You can find it in the Transcriptions page.

Transcription: McCoy Tyner Solo on “Mode To John”

Echoes From Enchanted Forest
Another “project” for my classes :3 I call it “soundtrack-like”, because it is not for any scoring project. I used the instrumentation of flute, guitar, and string quartet; a bit of polyphony; and folk-like harmony & melody to create some ethnic feel. I can’t control myself using the scale degree #1. It sounds so warm.…
